Meg and I went to New York for a few days of vacation with some good friends. We had a great time, despite some extreme heat in the city. As we found out there really is no escape from in in Manhattan! We walked and rode around four of the five boroughs in four days and it was great to see the city finally. So much has been written and said about New York it was a great experience to see firsthand all the great buildings, museums, and other things in NY.
On Tuesday we went to the Statue of Liberty Island (they wouldn't let us on the monument itself) and Ellis Island. Both were interesting to see, especially Ellis Island. The main building has been fully restored and they'd added an extra wing exhibit documenting immigration. Truly interesting. We also saw our beloved Twins get swept by the Yankees, but then again no one likes the Yankees anyways.
Wednesday was museum day - Meg and I spent most of the day the Metropolitan Museum of Art which did not disappoint. It really is the biggest collection that I've ever tried to see. I say "try" as we only were able to see about a third of the museum in a day! Super cool. At night we went to see the Mets game as they're tearing down Shea Stadium after this year. It was good to see both Yankee and Shea before they're knocked down - we'll have to go back when the new ones are open!
