35W Bridge Progress

Okay, I know that everyone has heard about the bridge collapse in Minneapolis. Well, I had the chance to visit the reconstruction of the bridge this past week and it was fascinating. Primarily for engineering (read nerdy) reasons but it's amazing to see how fast this structure is going up. Bridges of this scale typically take two to three times longer to build, but they're been working double 12 hour shifts (through Minnesota winter) since the contract was let. Amazing scale of things - the bridge is 10 lanes wide and spans over the lock and dam on the Mississippi. It will also be the only hybrid cast-in-place/precast concrete bridge in the world. Enjoy.

The last view is of downtown Minneapolis and will be blocked once the bridge is complete.
