One Month Old

Fritz officially turns one month old today! It is getting more and more difficult to think about life before he was around. Everyone that I have talked to who is a parent says how quickly time passes and how much they change in such a short amount of time. There was a point when I scoffed at this advice - no longer! The first two weeks with him were the most difficult two weeks that I think we have ever gone through. Not that it's getting any easier, but when I look at pictures of Fritz on the day he was born and then look at pictures of him today, he is quickly changing into a little boy right before our eyes.Last night Carl's parents' neighbors had a really lovely shower for Fritz and everyone commented on what a beautiful baby he is (I have a tendency to agree, but I'm not biased at all). The most amazing thing to me is what he can do now that he couldn't do a mere 30 days ago. We have started having "tummy time" and he is incredibly strong and is already able to lift his head a look around. Yesterday I had him playing on the floor while I was blow drying my hair, and sure enough I turned the dryer off and he was chatting away to himself. His eyes are open often now, and I have no idea what he is looking at but he is fascinated by everything around him. He usually takes an evening snooze and the second Carl comes in the door and he hears Dad's voice his eyes open up, even if just for a few seconds. He plays contentedly for long stretches now, and even sleeps for longer stretches now (something I NEVER thought would happen).
We have been blessed with the generosity of an incredibly amount of people during our first month as parents. One of the most amazing benefits of being a parent is watching the world through a child's eyes. There are times when I would love to know what he was thinking......but until we reach that point, I am perfectly content just to discover the world with him.
